Woombye Cheese Company was founded by Karen and Graeme Paynter who decided to embark on a lifestyle change that took them from their fast-paced expat lives to the Sunshine Coast hinterland. In this rural community they saw the opportunity to source premium Jersey and Friesian milk from neighbouring dairy farms and felt this was the time and place to embrace their passion for—you guessed it—cheese.

For a cheesery who’s first batch of cheese was only made in June 2013, the Woombye Cheese Company have developed something of a cult following. Woombye’s handcrafted, artisan cheeses have been described as beautifully rich and moreish, and include all our firm favourites—Camembert, Triple Cream Brie, Truffle Triple Cream Brie, Blackall Gold (a delicious, washed-rind cheese), Ash Brie and Vintage Cheddar.

Today the Woombye team’s passion is still all about the cheese. And the rolling hills and lush agricultural pastures of the region guarantees happy cows, delicious milk and wonderful cheese.


Woombye Cheese is handcrafted by the Woombye team under the mentorship of renowned cheesemaker and educator, Carole Willman. Starting with their flagship Truffle Triple Cream Brie, and continuing with each of the beautiful cheeses that followed, every product that emerges from the Woombye brand is nothing short of exceptional. And they wouldn’t have it any other way.

All of Woombye’s cheeses are award winners. In fact, they’ve received a total of 21 awards from various industry giants, including the Dairy Industry Association of Australia, Australian Grand Dairy Awards and delicious. Australia Harvey Norman Produce Awards. Their cheeses can be found on the menus of Australia’s best restaurants and in its most fantastic shops.

The Sunshine Coast has always been well known as a stunning travel destination. But it also has a growing reputation as one of Australia’s premier food producing regions. The area has a fantastic climate, with consistent sunshine, reliable rainfall and lush, fertile soil. This makes it a fantastic foodie area. In fact, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland you can sample macadamias, strawberries, olives, bananas, avocados, pineapples and much more!

It’s also home to a growing boutique dairy industry. Because the farms are generally small in the area, it allows farmers to focus on high-quality care for their animals, while ensuring that they manage the land sustainably. Beautiful herds of Jersey and Friesian dairy cows are pastured across the rolling hinterland fields, and cafes and cheeseries offer a true paddock to plate experience.
