Father's are the hardest to buy for... Until now! Cheese.
That's your answer and damn fine cheese at that. In our All-Australian Father's Day Pack, our cheesemonger specially selected 4 cheeses that he wanted to get from his kids. Behind the scenes, he's been working hard with the cheesemakers to create something special...
HARD: Monte Nardi, L'Nimbin Valley Dairy NSW
Monte Nardi is a semi hard cow milk cheese that pays tribute to the early Italian settlers of the Northern Rivers region; it is Australia’s first truly regional cheese. Italian settlers began arriving at the beginning of last century from the Venuto region and surrounds of northern Italy, bringing their local farmhouse cheese making skills with them. Over a period of time reaching out and learning from the generations before them, Nimbin Valley crafted the Monte Nardi to perfection!
SOFT: Marcel, L'Artisan VIC
Great cheese starts with great milk. In this case, L'Artisan get their organic milk from cows grazing near Victoria’s Great Ocean Road. The creaminess of the milk certainly makes itself known as you slice into this beautifully formed wheel. The wrinkly rind indicates the use of a particular fungus called Geotrichum Candidum. This is responsible for the cheeses’ ripening and reducing bitterness that can often come from other moulds. We prefer this cheese at its Best Before date.
STINKY: Night Walker, Stone & Crow VIC
Night Walker is a washed rind cheese that Jack washes in brine every day until it is ready to wrap up. The texture is soft and gets more rich and gooey as it gets older. The flavour is mild and meaty, just like a washed rind should be.
BLUE: Bolte's Bonanza, Cooriemungle VIC
This is a delicious blue that has so many sensations in the texture that you'll be pulling some wow faces when tasting it for the first time! Bolte’s Bonanza is a blue vein that has been matured in wax, creating a creamy, moist cheese with an altered flavour and texture to a naturally rinded blue. You have a smooth texture and then crunchy crystalised blue vein pockets that burst in your mouth - it’s a blissful surprise with every bite!
